its no secret that consumerism is the true american pastime. despite obsessions with consuming goods it really has never made me happy. my answer to this is to make things. that is why i have always made art because it was never enough just to take in, i had to create. for the longest time i thought the opposite of consuming is making,  that only makes logical since. until today, when i heard this story about a family who sold their big house so they could give the money away,  i realized that i was wrong.  the opposite of consuming isn’t making, its giving. I can make all i want to counter consumerism but in the end this can still be self serving. giving is really the opposite of receiving, something i am truly bad at. the question for me isn’t what am i making? the real question is, who is it for?
