after reading this article i have become strangely interested in a new breed of men that have been emerging in japan called herbivore men. known for their lack of interest in sex and money, they reject the “cavemen” mentality of their fathers generation and embrace a more herbivorous lifestyle.
the word for Sex in japanese translates to “relationship in the flesh” but this new groups lack of interest in “Flesh” coined them the name Herbivores. Also unlike their fathers they have rejected the money driven corporate mentality of most japanese businessmen and accepted a simpler less expensive life focused on plutonic relationships, art, fashion, and long walks.
old men but especially women disagree with this new herbivorous lifestyle. it has been estimated that over 60% of men between 20 and 30 have adapted this effeminate herbivorous lifestyle in Japan. Comfortable with financial insecurity, inexpensive living and less promiscuity, are these men defective or are they just adapting? the japanese economy has been declining for many years now and the collapse of the worlds economy hasn’t helped. are these men learning to adapt to a struggling economy and inauthentic social system? are these men failing the society at large or are they the men of the future?
